“The easiest way to tell a pearl is real is by doing a quick *tooth test*. Simply take the pearl and gently rub it on the surface of your tooth. *Authentic pearls often have small irregularities in their shapes and texture*. It’s very rare that you’ll find a perfectly shaped pearl. They should feel gritty and have a sandpaper-like feel to them. On the other hand, if they’re fake, they’ll feel really smooth. You can also try rubbing two pearls together to see if there’s slight friction.”

Olgashevchenko certified gemologist and gems and jewelry appraiser at JEWELRY OLGA, suggests:

“There some major tests that may help: weight test,  look test, touch test (or sometimes people use tooth test), magnifying glass test,  luster test. Moreover, if the pearls look too good, most likely, these are not real pearls. Otherwise, these pearls are very expensive.”

1. Touch and feel the temperature

You should touch them first and feel the temperature. The first move. is a pearl is real they are cool to touch for the first few seconds before they warm up. Fake plastic pearls are as high as room temperatures and when you feel them you don’t feel the coolness. False ones made of glass beads, however, can be fun at first. However, it takes them longer than actual pearls to warm themselves against your skin.

2. Search for small irregularities

You can note small irregularities and scratches on each perle’s surface when you inspect real perls closely or under length. In a strand of crop perls, even though they are high quality and well balanced, you will still be able to see very few variations between them. If the perls are totally perfect and similar in form, scale, colour and surface, they are possibly counterfeit.

Cultivated and real pearls often represent differently light than fake pearls. The glassy appearance of the fake perles is unnatural.

3. Check the color

Natural and cultivated pearls also have an overtone, a transparent colour on a pearl’s surface. Especially among fine quality perls is noticeable. The key colour of the pearl is a hint of pink and green.

You will probably be fake when you see that the perls only have one uniform colour and lack profundity. However, it should be noted that certain true pearls often have no overtone. So the validity of a perle can be told only by this procedure.

AlinaClark Founder and director of CocoDoc, gives the following suggestions:-

” There are certain ways to tell if a pearl is real or man-made, first of all, you need to feel the temperature of the pearl. Real pearls are cold to touch for the first couple of seconds and then warm up against your skin while fake pearls are usually the same as the room temperature. The second way to tell if a pearl is real is to look for tiny irregularities, real pearls will always have tiny irregularities and ridges on their surface. If the pearls have a perfect shape, color, and surface characteristics, they are most likely artificial.

The third way to tell if a pearl is real or manmade is to observe the shape of the pearl. Real pearls usually come in various shapes such as the oval, button, near round, circled, and coin. So no matter what the shape of the pearl is, if you find them completely identical, this could be a sign that the pearls are man-made.

Another good way to tell if the pearls are real is to rub them against each other lightly, real pearls will usually feel gritty, while artificial pearls usually feel smooth. Lastly, you can check the size of the drill holes, drill holes in real pearls are usually very tiny while they can be comparatively larger in artificial ones.”

4. Observe the shape

Rarely are the most real perls round. It comes in oval, button, close, circled, coin, drop and completely irregular baroque types. Round perls are usually priced higher than perls of other types. But you still have some small variations in their perl-form, even with a strand of real perl necklace perfectly round.

So whatever the perl-shape, it’s probably a sign that machines are produced if you find them absolutely identical.

5. Rub the pearls to check surface feel

Because of its layered nacre construction, both natural and cultured pearls have textured surfaces. Then they sound a little grudgey if they are rubbed gently against each other or the forehead teeth. However, fake or picture pearls normally feel glassy or smooth.

6. Check the Weight

Real pearls are usually heavier than fake pearls. Gently throw them up and down and feel the difference in weight. This method can be used to measure coated glass or plastic performance beads.

The only difference in the case of solid glass beads is this weight test. They weigh much more than normal or grown pearls. they weigh. So for your judgement, you will want to use other approaches.

7. Look for drills

The drill holes are normally very small in actual perles, whereas they are sometimes larger in imitation perles. The coating around the boiling holes of fake perls is usually thin under length and looks like a glossy colour. Flakes or chipped coverings can also be seen around the boiling hole that will gradually peel off.

Abby Head of Marketing at Well PCB recommends:

Look at the luster of pearls: It is distinguished by the color, luster, size, shape, and other aspects of the pearl. Natural pearls are irregular in form.

Look at the surface of the pearl: through a magnifying glass, you can see the growth texture of natural pearls, and fake pearls can see the phenomenon of high rough or thin layer detachment at the beading holes.

Touch the pearl: The method of distinguishing true and false pearls by hand or tongue. If the surface of the pearl is smooth and full, there are no dead corners; then you can guess that it is a fake pearl.

Irradiate the surface of the pearl with ultraviolet rays: the secretions of shellfish cause pearls. They contain a lot of protein and will fluoresce under irradiation.”

What is the rarest color for a pearl?

Pink pearls are very valuable, in particular in the US, but they are among the rare natural pearls. The endangered queen conch snail has been produced and has not yet been cultivated successfully. Many pink pearls are therefore teared freshwater pearls on the market.

How rare is a black pearl?

When the bottle sticks in a very specific type of oyster, the black-lipped Pinctada margaritifera, in Tahiti, the Black Pearl is shaped. But this is uncommon; only 1 in 10,000 pearls occurs.

Do pearls die if not worn?

That perls die in darkness and keep their lustre and value when they are worn always is an important fact that the owners of jewels must always take into consideration. Taking a pearl necklace, you’ll find that the perls get rusty over the years and lose their brightness, which makes them so useful.
